The Experience
At P.G.P.C. in Summit, we believe in the Acts 2:38 experience. The Acts 2:38 experience in 3 simple steps is:
The act of turning from your sins and asking to the Lord to forgive. It is not simply saying “I’m sorry” but it is turning from them and walking a new path.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
“For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of, but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” 2Corinthians 7:10
The act of baptism is being completely submerged in water and the washing away of your sins.
“Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4
The Spirit gives the utterance as evidence that you have received the Holy Ghost. When you receive the Holy Ghost you have God sitting on the throne of your heart. You’re a new creature, you start talking and acting differently because now you’re a Child of the King. To be a Christian is to be Christ like and this is why we live the way we live. God said in Leviticus 20:7, “Be ye holy, as I am holy.”
“For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people” Isaiah 28:11
“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from Heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:1-4
The ONE true God
We also believe that there is only ONE true God and His name is Jesus.
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is ONE Lord:” Deuteronomy 6:4
“Thou believest that there is ONE God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” James 2:19
“I and my Father are ONE” John 10:30
” Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.” Isaiah 44:8
